The Plasma Cool portable air conditioner is designed to condition an average-sized room up to 400 square feet. Patented Evaporative Booster Technology - During the cooling process, water is extracted from the air as it passes through the unit. Most of this water is used to cool the unit and make it run more efficiently. This unit has a built-in water tank (not removable) with a drain outlet. When the tank fills, the compressor stops running. This indicates that the tank should be emptied. Included with the unit is a window mounted exhaust kit. AC must be vented via exhaust hose and window kit (included).

How is EER Calculated?
The EER of an air conditioner is its British thermal units (BTU) rating over its wattage. For example, if a 10,000-BTU air conditioner consumes 1,200 watts, its EER is 8.3 (10,000 BTU/1,200 watts). The higher the EER is, the more efficient the air conditioning unit is. However, normally a higher EER is accompanied by a higher price.
Generally, an EER of 10 or above is considered good, and Energy-Star air conditioners have are rated with a 10.7 EER or higher.
Portable air conditioners are rated in BTU (British Thermal Units) A BTU is the amount of heat used to raise the temperature of one pound of water to 1 degree Fahrenheit or an easier way to think of it is the measure of the amount of heat an air conditioner can remove from the air over a specific amount of time. Proper matching of BTU to your home is essential, because bigger is not always better. A portable AC without enough cooling capacity will struggle to keep your space cool.
To maximize your efficiency you need to decide on a portable AC that is a little more than you need, it is always better to have more than not enough.
There are also a few guidelines you will need to consider:
- Reduce your required capacity by 10% if your room is heavily shaded.
- Increase your capacity by 10% if your room is very sunny.
- Add 600 BTU to your capacity for each additional person (beyond two people) that regularly occupies the same room.
- Add 4,000 BTU if the room is the kitchen.
When it comes to efficiency portable air conditioners are rated by an EER (Energy Efficiency Rating) which is calculated by dividing the BTU by the wattage. When choosing an air conditioner, the more expensive unit with the higher EER rating is a better choice. Let's compare two AC's with the EER of 8.3 and 10. Assume you plan to use your air conditioner about 5 months out of the year for 8 hours a day to make the summer heat tolerable. Also assume that the cost of kilowatt-per-hour is $0.10. The difference in usage is 200 watts, therefore every five hours the less expensive unit with 8.3 EER will consume 1 extra kWh and cost you $0.10 more than the more expensive 10 EER unit.
Portable air conditioners expel their heat by means of a 5 foot exhaust hose that can be routed through your window, via a window exhaust kit, or into a ceiling. The window kit is not permanent and can be moved from room to room. Air conditioners are naturally dehumidifying because they cool the air by means of a compressor, therefore they collect water into a container that needs to be emptied.
